What is The House of Amritsar?

The House of Amritsar is a premium topical skin, scalp and body ritual collection in development for selected UK spas, hotels, boutiques and individual clients. Our purpose is to translate the botanical and sensory traditions of Amritsar and wider India into refined, modern cosmetic formats — while meeting contemporary expectations for ingredient documentation, safety, stability and responsible cosmetic development. The founder’s note explains why the collection exists.

Can I buy the products yet?

Accepted Answer

Not yet. The eight rituals shown on our website are proposed concepts, currently being used for market research with individual customers and UK spa, hotel and boutique professionals. Concepts, formulations, packaging, sizes, pricing and launch order may all change as the collection develops. No sales, orders or reservations are being taken.

We believe the best brands are built by listening. Before finalising the collection, we’re sharing our concepts with customers, spas, hotels and boutiques to understand which rituals, formats and experiences matter most — feedback helps us shape the final collection. Question 4

Is this a medicine or supplement brand?

Accepted Answer

No. The collection is developed as external, topical cosmetic skincare, described using cosmetic language — cleansing, moisturising, conditioning, perfuming. It isn’t developed as medicine, a supplement or a treatment for disease, and we don’t claim to treat disease, alter internal physiology, or cure a skin, scalp, hormonal or muscular condition.

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is an ancient Indian system of health knowledge and daily living. Its name comes from the Sanskrit ayur (life) and veda (knowledge) — “the knowledge of life.” The House of Amritsar draws specifically from Ayurveda’s topical grooming, bathing, oiling and beauty traditions. Our products are cosmetics, inspired by this heritage; they are not presented as Ayurvedic medicines.

Why do you use the word “Ayurvedic” if these are cosmetics, not medicines?

Accepted Answer

Because it’s the most honest word for where our ingredients, rituals and thinking come from — not because we’re claiming medicinal status. When we call a ritual “Ayurvedic-inspired,” we mean its hero botanicals, its name and its intended sensory experience are drawn from Ayurvedic and Indian beauty traditions, paired with responsible cosmetic descriptions rather than medical language.

Is Ayurveda really thousands of years old?

Ayurveda’s heritage is widely described as stretching back more than 5,000 years — rooted in oral knowledge, Vedic culture and household practice, and gathered over time into written medical texts. We treat “5,000 years” as a mark of the tradition’s depth and continuity, rather than a precise founding date.

What are the doshas — Vata, Pitta and Kapha?

In Ayurvedic thought, Vata, Pitta and Kapha are the three doshas: organising principles a trained practitioner uses to describe constitution and balance. We reference the doshas because they’re part of the intellectual framework our ingredients come from — our products aren’t designed to diagnose a dosha or replace advice from a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner.

Why “The House of Amritsar”?

Our identity begins in one place: Amritsar, in Punjab, and specifically the old city’s botanical trading lanes, apothecary shops and household oiling and bathing customs, where materials like rose, turmeric, neem and Multani Mitti have been passed down through generations. As we put it on our origin page: “It is not an aesthetic borrowed from Ayurveda. It is a provenance we can trace to the source.”

Why does provenance matter so much to this brand?

Accepted Answer

Because heritage claims in beauty are easy to make and difficult to do authentically. Many brands reference Ayurveda’s visual language — turmeric-inspired colours, Sanskrit-inspired names and botanical storytelling — without a traceable connection to the places or practices they’re referencing. We’ve chosen the harder, slower path: naming an actual city, and sourcing through partners we can name to a supplier and batch level wherever practical.

How and where are your ingredients sourced?

Wherever practical, we source signature botanicals through traceable partners in Amritsar and Punjab. Some plants are naturally cultivated in other parts of India, and certain cosmetic-grade functional ingredients may be sourced elsewhere when required for quality, safety or performance. Each ingredient’s origin will be published as formulations are finalised — the Botanical Library covers the tradition behind every material.

A pre-wash scalp-oiling ritual concept for fine-looking hair or hair that feels in need of conditioning, and scalps that feel oily or require balancing — designed to condition the scalp and support the appearance of stronger, fuller-looking hair. See the concept page.

A lightweight, leave-in serum concept for a scalp that feels dry or uncomfortable and would benefit from lightweight conditioning — a lighter counterpart to Kesh Amrit. See the concept page.

Are the ingredients shown the complete ingredient lists?

Accepted Answer

No. What we show today are each concept’s hero ingredients — the botanicals that define its character and heritage story — not a final ingredient declaration (INCI list). We’ll publish the complete ingredient list for each product once its formulation is finalised and assessed. Are the products for external use only?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every product concept is intended solely for external, topical use on the skin, scalp or hair. None is intended to be swallowed, taken as a supplement, or applied internally.

Should I patch test before use?

Accepted Answer

Once final products launch, a small-area test before first use is sensible, particularly for anyone with sensitive skin or a known reaction to fragrance, essential oils or botanicals — though patch testing does not guarantee a later reaction cannot occur.

Are the products suitable for sensitive skin?

Accepted Answer

Suitability depends on the finished formula. Products containing essential oils, camphor, aromatic woods or concentrated botanical extracts may not suit everyone, and that’s worth knowing before you try them.

Can I use the products during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Accepted Answer

Please follow the final product label and safety assessment once it’s published. If you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, under medical care, or unsure about a specific essential oil or botanical, it’s worth a quick word with a healthcare professional first.

The collection is being designed with adult skincare rituals in mind. We’d only describe a product as suitable for babies or children once it’s been specifically formulated, assessed and labelled for that age group.

Stop using the product and rinse the affected area where appropriate, and seek medical advice if a reaction is severe, persistent or causes concern. Please keep the packaging and batch information.

Not yet confirmed for any of these. We’ll make each of these statements only once all final raw materials, processing aids, supplier declarations and certifications have been reviewed and genuinely support the claim.

When will The House of Amritsar launch, and do you ship internationally?

Accepted Answer

There is no fixed launch date yet. We’re using our website to test interest before the first products enter final development. Our primary current focus is the UK market, and no shipping or sales channel has been confirmed. If you’re outside the UK and interested, please tell us via our survey. Where the collection stands today — including the UK cosmetic safety assessment, product information file and notification steps that come before commercial supply — is set out in the introduction.
