Rasayana is not a single plant but an entire branch of Ayurveda — the rejuvenative category, concerned with vitality and renewal over time rather than with treating a complaint. Naming a night balm after it is a deliberate framing: the concept is about the restorative interval of sleep rather than an active correcting step. It is the most modern formulation in the collection, pairing that classical framing with bakuchiol, a plant-derived cosmetic material with contemporary rather than traditional standing.
Why these botanicals
- Bakuchiol
- Derived from babchi. The one material in the collection chosen for contemporary cosmetic standing rather than classical lineage, and the reason this concept reads as modern despite its Ayurvedic name.
- Saffron
- Shared with Kumkumadi, but used here for warmth and continuity across the facial concepts rather than as the defining note.
- Ashwagandha
- A principal rasayana material in the classical texts, included to justify the concept's name in substance rather than in branding alone.
- Pomegranate
- Anar, long associated with replenishment in Indian tradition, contributing the faint fruit note that lifts an otherwise warm, resinous profile.
How the ritual is intended to work
Intended strictly as an overnight step, applied last in an evening routine and left in place until morning. In professional settings it is envisaged as a retail recommendation rather than a treatment-room product, since the ritual depends on the hours after application. It is designed to sit comfortably over a facial oil such as Kumkumadi rather than to replace it.
Texture, aroma and finish
Envisaged as a true balm — solid in the jar, melting on contact with skin — rather than a cream. The finish is intended to be cushioned and slightly occlusive, appropriate to overnight wear and deliberately richer than anything else in the collection. The aroma is quiet: warm and faintly fruity from the pomegranate, with saffron beneath it.
Format and presentation
Intended as a wide-mouthed jar suited to a balm texture and a fingertip-scooped quantity. Whether a jar or an airless format better serves the finished formulation is still under review.
Suitability and safety
Shaped for adult facial skin, for overnight use. Intended for external topical use on the face and neck only. Bakuchiol is a cosmetic material, not a medicine, and no therapeutic claim is made for it. A patch test ahead of first use is advised, and the finished formulation will carry a full INCI declaration and allergen information once the UK cosmetic safety assessment is complete.
