Abhyanga is the classical Ayurvedic oil-massage practice, described in the traditional literature as a daily discipline rather than an occasional indulgence — the whole body oiled with warmed, herb-infused oil, typically with long directional strokes. Of the eight concepts this is the one closest to a genuine classical practice, and it is the collection's signature: the product most directly designed for the professional treatment rooms the House is being built for.
Why these botanicals
- Sesame
- Til tailam, the classical carrier oil for abhyanga and the traditional base into which other materials are infused. It sets the concept's weight, slip and nutty base note.
- Ashwagandha
- Included for the grounding, restorative association it carries in classical massage preparations — the quality the concept's name points at.
- Vetiver
- Khus, a cooling aromatic material that gives the oil its earthy top note and keeps a warm, heavy base from becoming cloying over a long treatment.
- Turmeric
- Haridra, among the most culturally significant materials in Punjab. Used at a level intended to carry its warmth and heritage without staining linen — a practical constraint that professional feedback is directly shaping.
How the ritual is intended to work
This is the concept most explicitly designed for trade. In a treatment room it is intended as the primary massage medium for a full-body abhyanga sequence, warmed before use and applied generously with long flowing strokes. At home it is intended for the traditional pre-bath self-massage, applied and allowed to absorb before showering. Of everything in the collection, this is the one where professional volume and back-bar practicality matter most to the final format.
Texture, aroma and finish
Envisaged as a warm, substantial oil with genuine slip — it needs to stay workable through a long massage without dragging or absorbing too quickly. The aroma is the most complex in the collection: earthy vetiver over the nutty base note of sesame, with turmeric's dry warmth behind it.
Format and presentation
Intended in two presentations: a retail bottle and a larger professional back-bar format for treatment-room use. The professional size is one of the specific questions put to trade respondents, since it determines whether the concept is practical for a working spa.
Suitability and safety
Shaped for adult body skin, in both professional treatment and daily self-care settings. Intended for external topical use on the body only, not the face. A patch test ahead of first use is advised, and the finished formulation will carry a full INCI declaration and allergen information once the UK cosmetic safety assessment is complete. Turmeric-containing preparations can mark light fabrics, and final guidance on this will accompany the finished product.
